If you pray, you are helping to save your soul. If you do
NOT pray, you are risking the loss of your soul.
The Orthodox way of life requires a definite and
determined conscious spiritual struggle with one's self. It is
a way of life where the Church and its teachings are the
center of one's life. Orthodoxy believes that although there
are many instances where the bible speaks of forgiveness,
we still have a free will which means that we can mess up.
When we have confession, we need to confess our sins,
otherwise they will be held against us. Unlike the western
churches, which believe that through faith alone you will be
saved, the Orthodox say "Faith and good works thru love
bring God's grace for salvation."
Everyone needs to allow Christ into his or her life
completely. This means that not only does your mind need
to listen to His word; your heart needs to fulfill it. This
isn't easy! Forgiveness is imperative in the heart of a good
Christian. The bible says, "Judge not, and you will not be
judged."
An Orthodox Christian's worship is focused on God, not on
his or her own enjoyment, fulfillment, or fellowship. We
come into the presence of God with awe, aware of our sins
and His great mercy. We seek forgiveness and rejoice in
the gift of salvation. Orthodox worship is formed by
repentance, thanksgiving, and unending praise. Glory be to
the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was
in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without
end. Amen.
According to Orthodox teaching, man can be saved by
faith, good deeds and godly life, which means living
according to God's commandments. God revealed His
moral law in the Old Testament through Moses, and in the
New Testament through His Son Jesus Christ.
Hide us in the shadow of Thy wings, drive away from us
every enemy and adversary; render our life peaceful, O
Lord, have mercy upon us and Thy world and save our
souls, for Thou art gracious.
