The Annunciation
March 25
(Matt. 1:14-24, Luke 1:26-55)
The Virgin Mary was chosen by God to become
The mother of our savior, Jesus Christ. While she
Was praying the Angel Gabriel appeared to her and
Announced the good news, saying "Hail, O
Favored one, you shall bear a son and you shall
Call his name Jesus."
This is the feast of the Annunciation which
Begins the new age of salvation. The hymn of the
Feast proclaims:
"Today is the beginning of our salvation
and the revelation of the mystery of
the ages. The son of God becomes the
son of the virgin. Gabriel announces the
good news of grace. Therefore, together
with him, let us cry out to the Theotokos:
Hail, O favored one! The Lord is with
You!"

I am angry and I an still okay
There is a collective pain among people of color that has
been denied, mislabeled or unacknowledged. The pain of our
collective past, the pain of our parents, the pain we
experienced as children, the pain we create for one another.
Regardless of the source or the age of the wounds, our pain
is the source of our anger. Yet we are taught it is not "nice"
to be anger. We are discouraged from voicing or acting out
on what we feel. We come up with cute little names for the
things we do to deny that we are angry. When we fail to
acknowledge anger, it quickly becomes depression and the
weight makes it difficult to move forward. It robs us of
our dreams. It steals precious hours, days and years.
Depression may be labeled laziness, confusion, ignorance or
just the way we are. Very often these labels make us angry.
The only way to end the cycle and get off the roller coaster
of denied emotions is to admit that we are angry and go
within to find the remedy.
Depression is anger that you turn on yourself.
